Although Marco Island has great fishing year-round some species are available only during certain times of the year. Our guides will help you plan your trip based on your goals and set real expectations for the day.
Early in the year, Marco Island fishing offers a mix of inshore and offshore opportunities depending on conditions. On inshore trips we often catch sheepshead, black drum, mangrove snapper, redfish, and trout around mangroves and nearshore structure. Offshore charters focus on grouper, snapper, cobia, and amberjacks, with longer Gulf runs occasionally producing tuna and additional grouper species.
Late spring through summer fishing around Marco Island is defined by active inshore action and consistent offshore opportunities. In the backwaters, anglers target snook, redfish, mangrove snapper, trout, and tarpon around mangroves, passes, and nearshore structure as warmer water pushes fish shallow and aggressive. Offshore trips focus on grouper, snapper, cobia, and amberjack, with longer Gulf runs offering opportunities for pelagic species including tuna and other seasonal offshore targets.
As water temperatures cool, fishing patterns become more stable and predictable. Backwater trips commonly target redfish, sheepshead, black drum, speckled trout, and mangrove snapper. Offshore charters may focus on kingfish, cobia, Spanish mackerel, snapper species, amberjacks, and red grouper, with trip plans adjusted based on weather and sea conditions.
